This year I was fortunate to be appointed in a part time role (3 days a fortnight) of School Improvement Coach and will be brokered out to support the coaching of school Principals. I am currently working with Principals in the beautiful Ingham area. The departments Equity and Excellence model includes the additional support to schools that is not necessarily undertaken by School Supervisors. So for this year I have undertaken training and professional learning in Brisbane and connecting remote with my schools. We have currently finalised our recruitment process for acting opportunity in behind the Principal and I would like to share that Karen Weekes will be the Acting Principal and Collette Williams the Acting Deputy Principal when I am out of our school. It is important when I am absent supporting other schools, we continue to offer the maximised team to support our learners and great leaders running the school.
Congratulations to all our super star Cross Country runners who pounded the pavement recently in the annual school Year 3-6 event. Thank you families who went above, and beyond promoting the team spirit and preparing children in their house colours. Can I thank staff for your efforts to keeping our students safe and hydrated during this event. Thank you again to the sensational Mr Dunn for your pre planning and organisation and ensuring all students were involved. Students who made a placing will now attend the Cross Country Trials next term in Merinda to hopefully reach selection at Collinsville to compete at a district level. Good luck to all students who made it to the next level.
Changes to the school newsletter have occurred this year. As a school we are working hard to look at ways to reduce staff and admin workload. Our school is aligning with other local primary schools to moving to a monthly newsletter. This motion was moved and supported by the school P & C.
Looking forward to sharing other great news stories in a month. Until then enjoy the remainder of Term 1.

This term Prep D have been super busy learners! We have been practicing our PLD sounds and blending and segmenting words. We also have been learning the Casey Caterpillar shapes in handwriting so that we can write the letters for the sounds in our words. Prep D have started writing simple cvc words on our whiteboards and in our writing books! We are feeling pretty clever!
Year 1C have been having so much fun learning how to create repeating patterns and identify the repeating unit. The students went on a treasure hunt to locate patterns in our school grounds, followed by making a pattern crown with a focus on colour patterns. As the week progressed, the children began creating various patterns to include AB, ABC, ABBA, ABBC, ABBC. The children have all really enjoyed using hands on materials to create patterns and to identify the repeating element.
1K have hit the ground running with Maths this term. We have already had a great deal of fun and success in learning to collect and represent data. Now we are learning to recognise, represent and order numbers. One of our favourite activities to assist with our understanding of number order and patterns has been the creation of our very own number board!
What a busy term we've had so far! 2M have enjoyed an excursion with the other year 2 classes to Bird's Fish Bar where we were taught about the different fish that are caught and the marine life that visit the boat harbour. We walked to the front beach and plotted our course on a map because we've been learning about location in math. 2M have won the Reading Rooster a number of times - well done everyone on getting to the library in the mornings to read to our BSS reading buddies! We've been reading up a storm in the classroom too, talking lots about character traits and qualities and what our opinion and preference for characters might be.
In 3S, we have been learning how to write and present a book review and express our opinion on different characters and events. We have read twisted fairy tales, stories with important messages and beautiful illustrations. Students have also been practicing presenting their book reviews to the class each week, which has been a whole lot of fun!

Year 4 have been busy watching short, animated films, writing thoughtful reviews, and presenting them with excellent volume, pace, and tone. They are thoroughly enjoying sharing their summaries, opinions, and whether they would recommend these films to others.
