Measuring our impact
This week teachers and leaders are reflecting on the first weeks of the school and the important artifacts in classrooms to support the learners at our school. In week 4 we celebrated 100% of our 22 classrooms displaying co constructed learning walls and evidence that teachers are ensuring the important resources are aligned to the current English unit.
The goal for students this term aligned to the 2024 Annual Implementation Plan is 100% of students can answer Q 1 & Q 2 of the 5 Q’s for learners. Q1 What am I learning? (Which is understanding of the learning intention for the current English unit. Q 2 How am I going? (What success criteria are students working on to reach their goal on English?) Next week leaders will be conducting classroom observations of the beginning of the lesson. We are looking for the clarity provided for the lesson intention and student engagement at the wall. Staff will be provided feedback to celebrate the great practices we observe and possible next steps.

A big shout out to our PBL winners on Parade last Friday. Our winners were definitely grinners after receiving special acknowledgment and prizes.
This fortnights social skill is "Respect- Establish and maintain positive relationships with others".
Please discuss this with your child, it is important that we all work together to ensure our children learn lifelong skills.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Leadership Parade this week. We are excited to watch each student grow this year within their leadership roles.

Sports Report Week 4, Term 1, 2024
It’s been an extremely busy couple of weeks with so many sports trials taking place. A big congratulations to all our students who have trialled for these sports. Our swimming program has begun for this term for Years 3 to 6. We have had some great swimming sessions in great summer weather. Cross Country training has been running for a couple of weeks with very large numbers of students attending.
Upcoming Calendar Dates
Monday 19th February: Whitsunday Touch Trials
Monday 26th February: Whitsunday Netball Trials
Thursday 29th February: Whitsunday Basketball Trials
Sports Trials Success
Congratulations to the following students who were selected Bowen Sub District Representation. We wish all these students the best at training in these teams and their upcoming Whitsunday trials.
Bowen State Ballerz
The Ballerz have started this term with two very close and competitive games last week. After leading last week early in the game, they were overrun late, ultimately going down by 2 points. In their most recent game the Ballerz reversed this result having a 2 point win. This was a great performance given the fact they only had 5 players available. Well played Ballerz!!
Before School Cross Country Training
Cross Country is off to a fantastic start with huge turnouts on all mornings. Boys and girls from years 3 to 6 have been working hard putting in many kilometres in hot and challenging conditions. These sessions will continue on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8am. Please note and put in your diaries, our school cross country event will take place on the first Tuesday back of Term 2, Tuesday 16th April.
Sports Equipment Borrowing
A big thank you to our Year 6 student leaders who have begun lending equipment out to students during first and second breaks. They will be set up under C block and students have been informed and encouraged to borrow equipment.
Lunchtime Basketball Competition
Something new to Bowen State this year will be our lunchtime basketball competition which will start next week. There has been a huge response from our Year 3 to 6 girls and boys with over 100 students signing up for this competition. There will be more information about this in the coming weeks.
Leigh Dunn (HPE Teacher)
Reading Hub is being held every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings in the library from 8:15 to 8:40. All students in years one and two are encouraged to attend.
Our readers strife to become one of our Reading Hub Top Dogs by attending every day it’s on. They find their own Reading Hub Booklet, select a book to read and then one of our Reading Hub Helpers listens to and assists them to improve their reading skills. The booklet is then signed and dated and taken to our Reading Hub collection point where it is stamped.
Parents, carers and interested community members are very welcome to come along and be one of our Reading Hub helpers alongside our dedicated staff and students.
During parade on Friday, we celebrate those students who became Tops Dogs each week.
Reading Hub- it’s a great way to start your day! We hope to see you there.
Prep S has had a great start to Prep for 2024. We are getting familiar with school routines and building friendships in the classroom and in the playground. We have started looking at numbers 1 to 10 in Maths and sharing likes, feelings and connections about stories in English, The Very Cranky Bear and Big Rain Coming have both been very liked.
Students love having brain break outside in the shade and a turn on the obstacle course set up daily to further build fine motor skills.

This term students in 6H are reading, discussing and comprehending the novel ‘Boy Overboard’ by Morris Gleitzman. It’s a touching and thought-provoking story about oppression and seeking refuge. The students are interacting with others and contributing in group discussion around the novel.
