The End to an Amazing Term
Reflecting on an amazing Term 2, I would like to express my gratitude to our school and community for your efforts to ensure all our students are happy learners and well supported at Bowen State School. Sadly, two members of our team will farewell Bowen State for the remainder of the year: Mrs Sue Thompson, our HOD of Engagement has supported us for Semester 1, whilst Danielle Upkett has been on leave. With Danielle’s return, I know the school is in a good position for a smooth hand over with Sue’s high quality support and work she has completed. We wish Sue the best for her next adventure and thank her for her commitment to our school.
Sandy, our dedicated and kind Chaplain has made the decision to move into retirement and to spend quality time with her extended family. We thank Sandy for the last 2 years of exceptional support at our school and strong relationship she formed with our students. Sandy has excelled in her role and we will miss seeing her around the school. Best of luck Sandy and we look forward to seeing you around the community.
We welcome a new staff member to the class 3H for Semester 2- Mrs Katrina Bullemor who will teach alongside Sherryl Sexton. Katrina will be replacing Mrs Alyssa Harriss who will take Maternity Leave for the remainder of the year. We would like to wish Mrs Harriss all the best on this exciting time with her growing family.
Week of Sports and Under 8’s Celebration
What a week of sport we had here at Bowen State School! Students demonstrated extemporary behaviour at the Junior and Senior events, and students tried their hardest in all activities. This was a wonderful opportunity for us to connect in with our families and celebrate the skills that Mr Dunn has been teaching in HPE this Term.
Under 8’s day was a great way to finish the week and celebrate all the age-appropriate opportunities on the morning for our littlest people. I was very proud of the students’ manners and behaviour on the day. A huge shout out to Mrs Cremona for her organisation, our Playgroup staff, Rhiannon and Mel for the great Bowen SS play area and lastly, all the parents - Mum's, Dad's, Grandparents and carers who took small groups of students on the morning. In closure I wish all families and staff a safe and relaxing holiday break and look forward to seeing you all for the return of the start of Term 3.

At the heart of every successful semester lies the dedication and perseverance of our students. Their commitment to learning and growth has been truly commendable, reflecting not only their academic success but also their passion for personal development.
Throughout the term, students have embraced challenges with enthusiasm, demonstrating a keen desire to excel in their studies and extracurricular activities. Their achievements, both inside and outside the classroom, serve as a testament to their hard work and determination.
Equally deserving of recognition are our teachers, whose unwavering dedication and innovative approach have made learning engaging and enjoyable for our students. Their commitment to creating dynamic and interactive lessons has fostered a positive learning environment where every student feels valued and supported.
As we reflect on the semester's achievements, we celebrate the collective efforts of our students, teachers and parents alike. Their collaborative spirit and mutual support have enriched our school community and laid the groundwork for continued success in the future.
PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning)
In our ongoing commitment to fostering a respectful school environment, we emphasize the importance of being in the right place at the right time through our Positive Behaviour Learning (PBL) initiative.
Respect is at the core of everything we do at Bowen State School. It encompasses not only how we treat others but also how we value each other's time and commitments. By being punctual and ensuring we are where we need to be when expected, we demonstrate our respect for our peers, teachers, and the learning process itself.
Under 8’s Day
Bowen State School recently celebrated Under 8's Day with enthusiasm and joy, as students immersed themselves in a day filled with exciting activities. From games to creative arts and educational experiences, the event provided a memorable opportunity for our youngest learners to explore and play.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the parents who generously volunteered their time and support to ensure the success of the event. Their involvement and dedication played a crucial role in creating a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants.
Additionally, Bowen State School extends its gratitude to Queens Beach State School for extending the invitation, fostering community spirit and collaboration among schools in the region. The opportunity to participate in such events strengthens bonds within our school community and enriches the educational experiences of our students.
Have a wonderful and safe holiday.
Kind regards,
Bec Cremona

Prep D had a wonderful time last Friday morning at Under 8’s Day at Queens Beach State School. The bus trip was very exciting and when we got there, we got into groups with our fantastic parent helpers who guided us around the fun activities. We then enjoyed the sausage sizzle and popper meal deal under a lovely shady tree before heading back to school for a quiet, relaxing afternoon! A big thank you to our parent helpers - your help made the morning run so smoothly and we had so much fun!
This term, Year 5S have been exploring artists’ use of animal representations and relationship to environment as inspiration for a sculptural artwork. As part of the process, students created an animal sculpture using foil armature, finished in clay, that represented aspects of their personality. Check out some of their amazing animal sculptures!
Mrs. Merrypor has turned the kitchen into a classroom where students have been discovering the art of cooking. What started with students expressing an interest in food and cooking, has led to a four day program of teaching not just recipes, but teamwork, patience and creativity. Students have prepared, cooked and eaten foods from a range of cuisines, such as pumpkin scones, enchiladas, pizza, pasta and fried rice.
On Tuesday 11th June, a group of 12 talented young ladies, under the direction of Mrs Conway, entertained the Uniting Church Fellowship Group at their monthly gathering.
The students sang, danced, performed gymnastic routines and one even recited a poem to keep the community entertained for over 45 minutes. They were remarkable and the audience’s reaction was overwhelmingly positive. One gentleman, who throughout his life has performed in many places as a singer, commented that he was impressed with what the students were doing in their music program. These girls are a credit to the Bowen State School community.
A big thanks goes to our helpers for the day, Bill Symonds, June Symonds, Lesley Hickmott and Peter Conway. Without your assistance, events like this would not be possible. Your support is truly appreciated.
