Cultural Success
Can I congratulate Mrs Conway for her hard work and dedication to the curriculum and learning this term culminating on the annual Fancy Dress Performance last Friday night. The evening was a roaring success. Staff, students and parents were entertained with a range of unique dances and performances. Congratulations to students for your outstanding behaviour on the evening. Thank you to staff who ensured the night ran smoothly and safely. Our P&C noted the large volume of food being purchased and feedback from Ashlee the convener was extremely positive. The school and P&C are looking forward to utilising the hall more frequently next year and are planning future discos for fundraising towards activities within the school.
End of a productive term
This week I would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of the students and staff within a very busy but productive term. Since my arrival in Week 4 I have seen the positive culture and effective practices and rich cultural experiences across the school. Our whole school focus around Writing and strengthening students application through goal setting has proven a high yield approach.
Term 4’s focus will include reflection as a whole staff around the writing goals and we will be asking ourselves the questions. “How can we support your child in the last ten weeks of the term?” and “What are the individual goals to ensure the best environment to maximise the growth of your child as a learner?” We want to use this time wisely and effectively to finish the year strong.
The staff in term four will be provided the opportunity to have consultation around the direction for the 2020 Explicit Improvement Agenda. We will be celebrating the successes, capturing the effective strategies of the work undertaken this year and reflect on various data sets to guide us to the work in 2020.
In conclusion can I wish all families a well earnt rest and enjoy a special time to relax and spend quality time together. Looking forward to sharing more great news stories for the fortnight following the school hoildays. Until then have a great couple of weeks.

A story by An Nguyen...
It was that time again, my annual surfing trip at Devon. I chatted with my corgi, Jango, as I drove down the busy road. Not too long into the journey, the glorious blue sky became dark and ominous. All of a sudden, a long line of huge waves rushed to the road at impossible speeds. Desperately, people ran out of the way of cars, panicking, crying, screaming and running away from their inevitable doom. As I was trying to process what was happening and what was going to happen. I looked outside my window to the left and I saw a man holding onto a lamp post, wearing a black coat which flapped around like crazy in the outrageous wind. I immediately recognised who he was and why he was there. He was Death, like the one in Sims 4. And he was here to write down the names of the innocent humans that are going to die, and boy is he going to get a cramp. I emotionlessly waited for my end, recalling all the wonderful experiences I’ve had.
The waves devoured the ocean and ‘game over’ in bold flashed in the screen. Ejiah glared at his screen and frustratingly flung his phone across his room. “Damn it! I forget to get out of the car and cling onto Death. I spent such a friking long time on that game.” “Gamer boy! It’s time for supper! And I made your favourite, honey chicken!” “Yes!!! Ok. I’m coming down!”

Colour Run Splash and Dash update
Last Saturday, fifteen students from Bowen State gave up their weekend activities to attend school.
Three teams of students competed for the title of 2019 Mathsminds. They need to solve mental maths and complete two sessions of problem solving.
They commenced the challenge at 10:30 in the morning and at 2:30pm the Bowen State School team of Lucas Gorham, Leo Hird, Brakley Pham, Dylan Bath and Isaac Gorham were announced the 2019 Mathsminds. It was a narrow win, defeating the second placed Queens Beach team by less than one point.
Congratulations to the three Bowen teams who placed first, third and fourth.
A big shout out to Pizza Hut who donated enough pizzas to feed all seven teams.

Library Borrowing
At Bowen State School, we would like all students to be borrowing from our library. Reading is so important and students need a large selection so they can find books that interest them and maintain their willingness to read and enjoyment. They are able to ask me where to find books on topics that are of interest. Classes have a library borrowing time during the week. I am usually in the library at first break (Monday to Thursday) so they can usually borrow at this time as well.
Students are expected to look after these books and return them within the 2 week loan period. If books are lost or damaged, families are expected to pay for them. Please ensure your child is returning their books.
Library Bags
Students in Prep to Year 3 must have a library bag so they can borrow. Students from Year 4 are strongly encouraged to also use their bag from last year.
St. Marys has some second hand Flutes, Trombones and Clarinets if parents are interested in buying one for their child. Mr. Osman is happy to check over any instruments etc.
Don’t forget the upcoming Workshop for IM students on Nov. 7th at the BSS Hall. It will culminate in a short concert for the school, parents and other schools involved.
