Clarity in practice
This week I would like to share my message on parade around our ongoing commitment to building great teachers at our school. Last week I had the pleasure to visit 6 classrooms to conduct the observation and feedback process. The positive experience enabled me to see the evidence of the key strategies and work we have been driving to support the learner (your child). This valuable reflective process provides feedback to the teacher of what that are doing well and where the next steps could be for their teaching and the learning. I pleased to report back that we have outstanding teachers in our school the consistency of approach and effective delivery of the lesson was outstanding. Students were highly engaged and 100% achieving their own individual goals within the differentiated task. We value feedback as a powerful tool not just for our students but the teachers as well.
Outstanding Communities of Practice K-2
Last week I had the pleasure to present the work of our school this year around our key strategies within oral language. The Bowen cluster schools have been part of a state wide project where some schools and clusters were selected to be part of a Community of Practice project. The tasks set were to look at a project to support the students in the early years and amplify and refine the work reporting back every term to the COP team. On Tuesday I gave our final presentation for the year. The highlight to share was the growth in the data and movement of our prep students through the strategies we enacted. I was able to share our playgroups evolving space with lots of new faces. We shared that we have many exciting new developments at the Playgroup including professional learning and linking in key local organisations such as health and the library. We cater for all ages and prove a great space for people to connect. Playgroup is on every Tuesday in the building below our hall. It is held at 10am -11am. Check our playgroup Facebook page for all the details and weekly updates.
Congratulations! We have an early years coach
Congratulations to Karen Weekes our current learning engagement teacher for winning the position of Early Years Coach at Bowen State School in 2020. Karen brings a wealth of knowledge and skills in the early year’s sector and is excited to work alongside the leadership team to build teacher capacity and drive key improvement strategies in the early year’s space. Karen’s extensive capacity in this space will enable us to utilise her tools to transfer best practice across the school. Well done!
Looking forward to sharing more great news stories for the fortnight. Until then have a great couple of weeks.

3B
Even though 3B have been busy finishing important assessment tasks for English, Maths and HASS, we have still been enjoying ourselves. We've been practicing leadership games with Chappy as well as attending 'Healthy Harold' recently. As you can see from the picture, we had a heap of fun learning new things and playing games in Harold's Life Education van.
1/2B
1/2B have been studying the properties of materials in Science. We had to select a material and then change it for a particular purpose. At first we had to test different materials to see which ones would be suitable to make our object. Year Ones had to make a boat that floated and could hold 2 marbles. Year Twos had to choose 2 materials to make a lunchbox that could hold an orange and a sandwich and be wiped out with a wet sponge. We needed to make sure we used materials that were waterproof.

This week 5B have been completing a book study project about Storm Boy, an Australian classic about a wild child from South Australia who adopts a wild pelican. Through this text the students have been grappling with complex ideas such as justice, environmentalism and illegal hunting. They have each been independently creating a book project that they will present to the class in a class discussion.
6B
Students have been hard at work in Art and Technology this term in order to create their Stop Motion Animation project. Students have been working in groups to create their backdrops and characters, and use these to take many many photos, and piece them all together with special effects to create a working animation using a software program on the iPads. A special viewing will be organised at the end of the term to showcase students efforts.
Swimming Carnival
This Friday is Bowen State School Swimming Carnival!
Students have been working hard and practising their skills at swimming lessons. Notes went out earlier this week and need to be returned as soon as possible to classroom teachers. Friendly reminder that students will NOT need to be dropped off at the pool due to the change in format this year.

As we enter this higher stress time of the term, where assessment is being completed, the weather is getting hotter and the end of the year is near. It’s really important to look after our own self care and the care of our little people. Here are some activities to stay connected and assist our little people to self regulate and be in control of their emotions.
In ALIVE we had Beau come in and teach the boys all about dancing and showed them a few break dance moves.
Fred Hollow Humanity Award Winner
One of our school leaders, Gemma Reibel, recently received a Fred Hollows Humanity Award. These awards recognize the work Year 6 students are doing to help their peers and other members of the community. Olympic Legend, Susie O’Neil presented the award at Parliament House in Brisbane.
Congratulations Gemma…….from everyone at Bowen State.
Greetings from your P&C,
The P&C hopes everyone that attended the Halloween Disco had loads of
fun. We would also like to thank all teaching staff who assisted with the
event and congratulations to Mrs. Reibel and Ms Hartley Miss Ross and Mrs Henaway on
their win in the Pumpkin Carving Contest. All proceeds from the disco will
go towards funding school camps, excursions and visiting performances to
reduce their cost to students.
The Disco was our last major event for the year and planning is already
underway to make 2020 even better. We have one last meeting before the
end of the year, which will be held, on the 2nd of December at 6:00pm in the
School Library.
As President I also formally announced my decision to step down as P&C
President at the next AGM in March 2020. Should you wish to nominate for
this position or know someone who would be interested please do not
hesitate to contact the P&C. I am looking forward to attending this year’s
Awards Ceremony at which I will deliver the P&C’s yearly report for 2019.
