End of an amazing term
In reflection of an amazing term I acknowledge the key events that have taken place in an action-packed Term One here at Bowen State School. We have hosted a range of educational and cultural experiences for our children including sporting, academic acknowledgement and individual achievements.
A highlight for our community would have to be the visit from the Governor of Queensland to our school. A memorable occasion for all our students and families. Our commitment to a positive approach to learning and celebration of exemporary behaviour continues to be a defining reason of “What makes Bowen State Great”. To see the faces of students enjoying the end of term rewards and badges on parade reminds me of what sets our school apart.
Can I thank all our families for their continued support this term and congratulate all of our students on their individual growth. Thank you to our hard working Teachers and Teachers Aides who have been working collaboratively on our school priorities around reading and writing and have regularly met to discuss student achievement and create goals to move forward in their learning. Well done to all our students for their individual growth and goals met this term. I congratulate you all on your hard work!
NAPLAN Term 2
In Term 2 our Year 3 and Year 5 students will engage in the paper-based format for NAPLAN 2021. We believe that “good first teaching” and “a deep understanding of the Australian Curriculum” is our business as usual approach to supporting all our students in their learning journey towards the NAPLAN test. NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment that allows parents to see how their child is progressing in literacy and numeracy against the national standard and compared with their peers throughout Australia. At the classroom level, NAPLAN provides additional information to support teachers’ professional judgement about student progress. Our Head of Curriculum (HOC) Maxine Hillery will support Year 3 and Year 5 teachers in the lead up to NAPLAN during Term 2. If parents have any questions or queries about their child participating in the NAPLAN testing please do not hesitate to talk to your classroom teacher.
Farewell and safe travels
In closure can I wish all our families and staff a safe and restful holiday period. I am looking forward to an action-packed term two and watching our students grow and move forward in their learning.
Looking forward to sharing more great stories around the teaching and learning at Bowen State. Until next term have a great couple of weeks.
Great Start to the Year for Attendance
For the majority of the term our students have been coming to school every day. As it currently stands our attendance rate is at just under 92%. In comparison to the previous 3 years, so far in 2021 stands as ours best year for attendance in years. Well done mums, dads, grandparents, aunties, uncles and everybody else involved in ensuring your children come to school every day. Keep up the great work!
Remember after the holidays to re-establish your children’s routine so they are ready for school. Research suggests that an established bedtime and morning routine is vital in ensuring your children maximise their attendance at school.
Establishing a sound routine is also vital in ensuring your children arrive to school on time consistently. If you are struggling a little in getting your children up in time and ready for school in the mornings, don’t be shy in reaching out to one of our support staff here at school to help you out and give you some support. Chappy Beau, Karenne Williams (Community Educational Councillor) or Danielle Upkett (Guidance Officer) are here waiting for our call. If you would like to make contact with one of our support staff then please give our school office on Ph 4786 9555 and they link you up.
Have a wonderful, well-deserved holiday.

Cross Country
This last Monday we had our sub district cross country event. We had 15 students qualify for the Whitsunday district event. This is a brilliant achievement. All the best to these students as the train and prepare for this event that will be taking place on the first Tuesday back of next term.
Congratulations to Charlee S, Sonny P, Mia S, Halle R, Taijanah N, Georgia G, Megan D, Emma S, Trinity R, Edie J, Liam J, Ljay B, Carter S, Josh C and Hayden F
AFL
It has been my pleasure to have the opportunity to coach the Whitsunday Under 12’s AFL football team this term. This culminated in the North Queensland team trials yesterday in Townsville. Congratulations to Carter S, Jake L and Hayden F who were a part of that team. The commitment these boys showed in learning and developing their skills in this game is something they should be very proud of. While they didn’t make the North Queensland team to make it as far as they did was a brilliant achievement, especially given the fact a few weeks ago they didn’t know what AFL was!!
Have a wonderful holiday everyone and I look forward to seeing the continued success of our students at Bowen State School in the world of sports in Term 2
Have a great week everyone
