End of a great term
I would like to wrap up the term with a huge thank you to our staff, parents and students for your resilience and commitment to the teaching and learning. A huge challenge for the leadership team has been staff replacement due to shortages of staff in our community. I would like to thank Karen Weekes for her hard work in brainstorming the creative ways to ensure classes could remain uninterrupted and professional development could continue.
Everyday staff have been setting goals for students and reflecting on the impact of the explicit teaching. We continue to track our goals towards targets set at the beginning of the year. I reflect on the key events and acknowledge the school review a significant event including all sectors of our school being interviewed in the ways of working here at Bowen State. Term 3 will be spent reflecting and mapping out the next four years for our school.
Congratulations to Mr Callaghan
Last week I was notified that Jeremy Callaghan has won and accepted the permanent position of Principal at Hughenden State School. I acknowledge the skills and talents that Jeremy brought to the role here and the strong relationships he formed over the 2 years. His experiences here in the primary sector will certainly support him in the P-10 space he is now working. We wish Jeremy and his family all the best and welcome him back for holidays to our beautiful Bowen. The permanent Deputy Principal position will be advertised and Karen Weekes will continue to be extended in her acting role until this position has been filled.
Reminder of holiday security
During the school holidays we ask that the community please keep an eye out for suspicious activity including trespassing on the school grounds. If families note unusual behaviour please report this to the school watch hotline.
In closing
I wish all families a safe and restful school holiday period and looking forward to hearing of all the great adventures had. School resumes Monday the 11 July.
Looking forward to sharing more great stories around the teaching and learning next term. Until the next fortnight have a great school holiday.

PBL SMILEY BADGE & SILVER BADGE PARADE
What a very special way to end our term with the presentation of Smiley Badges and Silver Badges to students on parade today. These students continually display our four values of being Responsible, Respectful, Safe and a Learner.
Bowen State School Staff Wellbeing Action Group (SWAG) recently hosted a 10000 Steps Staff Tournament.
This was an opportunity for staff to work together and take positive steps towards better health. We know regular walking produces many health benefits, including reducing our risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes and depression.
Overall, we had 36 staff register for our Coast-to-Coast Tournament, walking virtually from Port Douglas to Hobart across 5 weeks of term.
The leader board shows just how close the teams were to reaching Hobart.
Most Improved Team - The Gang
First Past the Post Team – Underdogs

Most Photographic Team – The A Team
Some member stories include
“I loved the tournament, every night I would check on my activity, log my steps and check how my teammates were going.”
“Once I started 10000 steps, I tried to get out of the house, walk the dog, mow the lawn or go to the beach. I know the program made me much more aware of how much exercise I need to do.”
