Increase in trespassing over weekends
Unfortunately, over the weekend the school has been the target of multiple trespassing incidences. Fortunately, we were able to get clear visual images of the offenders and this information was shared with police officers during the week. The school has invested a large sum of money into surveillance cameras and they are starting to pay for themselves. It is important that these persons realise that the images are hard evidence that places them into the crimes they are committing within our school. We will not tolerate these senseless acts. Hopefully as the word gets out and persons are charged then they will think twice about coming into our school grounds. Can I ask families to continue to monitor movements around our school on the weekend and report to School Watch or the QPS immediately.
School Activities
Over the last few weeks we have enjoyed many school activities and events. We started the term with an exciting and engaging Arts Council titled “The Forgotten Warrior”. This event and workshop went over two days and were attended by all local primary schools. The Indigenous perspectives included were a great alignment to the NAIDOC celebrations held over the school holidays. Can I thank Julie Keane from NQ Bulk Ports for organising funding from NQ Bulk Ports to support Bowen State School hosting this event. I would also like to thank Karenne Williams our school CEC who worked on the planning and organisation. A visit from Livio Regano and the Seven-Weather team was a highlight for our year 5 & 6 students. Check out the segment on the Seven plus app.
Last Saturday we hosted many new and existing families for our annual Prep Open Morning. We were delighted to see so many families. Staff who attended noted the great opportunity for families and future prep students to network, see inside the classrooms and tour the school. Information has been shared with all the local kindies and we are looking forward welcoming our future Prep students throughout our transition program that has been timetabled for the rest of the year.
ARD Visit
Next week on Tuesday we will be hosting some special guests at Bowen State School. Helen McCullough - Assistant Regional Director ARD, Sue Currin - Assistant Regional Director ARD and Kylie Smith - Regional Executive Director RED. We will be visiting classrooms and looking forward to talking to students and teachers about their current work and priorities for 2022. This will be Kylie and Sue’s first visit to our school and we are looking forward to sharing the outstanding work here!
I look forward to sharing more great stories around the teaching and learning this term. Until next fortnight have a great couple of weeks.

Bowen State School hosted its annual Prep Open Day on Saturday 16th July. It was a lovely morning catching up with current families as well as welcoming new families to our school.
We had a special visit from Kindawry our resident PBL Mascot. Following on from our Open Day our Prep Parent Information Night was held on Wednesday 20th July. Once again it was lovely to welcome some old and new faces to our school.
Starting Prep can be a daunting experience for both the child and their families- no matter if its your first time, 2nd time or 10th time.
At Bowen State we are here to make the transition as seamless as possible and starting next week we welcome any prospective 2023 Prep student to our Transition Days.
If you have any question or enquires for Prep in 2023 please do not hesitate to phone our office on (07)47869555.
We were thrilled to welcome Livio Regano and his team from 7 News to our school in week 1. Students in year 5 & 6 were treated to a weather masterclass. Thank you Livio for including Bowen State School in your ‘Livio on the Road’ Tour.

In recent weeks Lincoln Douglas and Charlee Snell represented Bowen State School at State Level in their chosen sport of Rugby League and Cross Country respectively.
Lincoln was selected to be a part of the North Queensland Boys Rugby League 10/11yrs Team and played some incredible football in some pretty wet and windy conditions.
Charlee competed on the Gold Coast representing North Queensland in the Girls 11yrs Cross Country. She ran 3km on a very tough and muddy track.
Both Students along with their dedicated families put many hours into training and travelling to be apart of such a prestigious level of school sport.
Congratulations Lincoln & Charlee, Bowen State is very proud of your achievement.
Senior Athletics Carnival 2022
The sun was shining and it was a glorious day the Bowen Sporting Complex. It was a super fun day for all students who participated in all of the events throughout the day. PD
Prep D have been learning to connect events with the days of the week! We read the fun story ‘Cookie’s Week’ about a cat named Cookie who did something mischievous on every day of the week. We then matched pictures of the events to the days of the week and created our own ‘Cookie’ cat to display our work.
3B
This term in health 3B have been learning about sustainable practices. Students identified sustainable practices within our school and made posters about each one to educate other students.
