Staffing Update
This week I am happy to announce that Elizabeth Mayo has been successful at securing a permanent principal position, starting in Term 3. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Elizabeth, I know that she will do an amazing job at her new school and the school community is very lucky to have her. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours. Over the coming weeks we will look to appoint a new Deputy Principal to start with us in Term 3.
Reconciliation Week
During Week 6 we celebrated Reconciliation Week, finshing the week with a wonderful parade celebration. This is a particularly important week in modern day Australian history. The deep pain breathed every day by many Australians has for so long been experienced without any acknowledgement or regard. We stopped to consider this pain and while this will never be enough, it is so important our message is clear. We care for all our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Earn and Learn
A big 'thank you' for helping us collect stickers. So far we have just short of 30 000 stickers collected. We are aiming for 50 000 stickers which is 10 000 more than the last time we participated in the Earn and Learn program. (We collected about 40 000 stickers.) A big 'thank you' to Therese Smalley, who is counting our stickers for us this year. You can help make counting easier by sticking the exact amount of stickers (when possible) on a sticker sheet. If you don’t have a sticker sheet, we have some spare here at the school office.
Late Arrivals and Early Departures
School starts at 8:50am sharp. Students arriving after 8:50am need to get a late slip from the office. This is a process to help strengthen our student absent text messaging service to parents. Students who are departing school early must be signed out and collected from the school office.
School Fete
On the 15th June will be holding our annual Fete. Last year this was a great success and as a school, we received some fantastic feedback from our community. If you are available to support our P & C by donating some of your time to help run stalls, please speak with your child’s class teacher.
Have a wonderful week and I look forward to another brilliant week of learning at Bowen State School.
High Quality Teaching & Learning
During Week 7 & 9 of Term 2, Classroom Teachers and our Learning Engagement Teachers will be working collaboratively with our Head of Curriculum – Mrs Hillery & Mrs Smalley to plan their next units of work for our students.
This is an important aspect of the professional support that our Teachers receive throughout the year to ensure high quality learning experiences for students.
QASSP – School Leadership Conference
During this week, I will be attending the School Leadership Conference in Brisbane. The event is hosted by Queensland Association of State School Principals. This year the theme of the event is “Navigating the Future”. I look forward to sharing key messages with the school on my return.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
During our most recent PBL meeting, our team analysed our current data and set goals for our upcoming behaviour focus area.
We also determined activities for our next buy in rewards sessions and our end of term rewards. We look forward to announcing these on parade in coming weeks.
Kind Regards,
Mrs Elizabeth Mayo

2C
2C have been exploring informative texts, focusing on procedures. We have been looking at and reading recipes. We have learnt that most commands in a method start with a verb (action word). We will write our own procedure for Grandma from George's Marvellous Medicine, using an ingredient list, an equipment list and a method.

3C
In 3C we started our measuring unit for Maths. We have learned a lot about measuring length, mass and capacity. Besides learning heaps, we also had lots of fun!
In English we are reading Charlotte’s Web. Last week we wrote a letter to city children to persuade them to come visit a farm. Next week we will start our oral presentations, where we will have to describe a procedure from a character’s point of view.

4/5C
Students in 4/5 C have been learning about symmetry in mathematics. They have been identifying if objects are symmetric and practising using rotation, reflection and translation symmetry. Students created symmetrical art using their learned knowledge.

Student Support Team: Connectedness and Community Spirit
Connectedness and community spirit has been elevated over the past weeks as the school joined with other schools watching the Annie musical dress rehearsal at the High School. We united under the new parade ground for Chappy week listening to music, connected over a special pancake breakfast, aeroplane throwing and tug of war during lunch times. Chappy Adam also supported other Chaplains as he visited Bowen High, Merinda and Queens Beach.
This week we have rallied together for Reconciliation week. We have connected over food at breakfast on Wednesday, participated in cultural games at lunch times with our CEC Rainer Power and Sport and Recreation Officer Garreth Prior. On Friday afternoon we all come together with empathy, solidarity and love to acknowledge our history, learn from it and move forward together courageously celebrating the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture for all.
Our school community is also a buzz as we prepare for the epitome of community spirit and human connection with our school P and C FETE June 15. At Bowen State we pride ourselves on strong relationships and human connection. If you aren’t connected get on board and ask how you can become connected at Bowen State. Phone 47 869 516 and talk the team.
