SOS 2023 School Opinion Survey Data
Last week we received our 2023 SOS. This provided quality feedback from Staff, Parents and Students and as I shared on last weeks parade we were so thrilled and proud of the outstanding data. Across the board we received above 90% satisfaction which is outstanding. We are reflecting as a staff and unpacking the individual data. It was great to see we had significant growth in some of the staff targets we set this year.
Prep Transitions
This fortnight we are engaging in multiple opportunities for transitions for our incoming preps. We hosted 55 prep enrolment interviews and I would like to thank Karen Weekes for leading the organisation of this event and for leadership team members and prep staff for their time and rich conversations with students and families. This term local kindergartens will be visiting and supporting the opportunity for children to continue to familiarise with our school campus and ways of working.
World Teacher and Support Staff Day
Today we celebrate World Teachers day. I would like to thank each and every teacher at Bowen State School for their devotion to ensuring every student reaches their full potential every day.
In recent years the teaching profession has meet great challenge and asked our staff to stretch their knowledge and capacity to work in ways we have never asked of our work force before. I know the lasting impacts of COVID 19 is something we are still grappling with in society and our teachers will continue to support the next generation out of a challenging few years. Please join me in thanking these incredible members of our school and the Bowen community.
Christien Payne
Principal
On Friday 28th October, the Bowen State School students participated in the Annual School Colour Fun Run. Prep L was the class with the most online registrations so they had the honour of photobombing Mr Payne! The students ran an obstacle course around the oval which even consisted of the Local Firefighters spraying them with their hose. A huge thank you to The Bowen Firefighters for keeping our students nice and cool.
A special thanks to all of our staff and helpers who made the event go ahead- we can happily announce that we raised over $6,600 online with the cash yet to be added to this amount.

This term in Science 1J have been learning about light and sound. We have been looking at different instruments and identifying how they produce their sound through a range of actions. In English we have been learning about the components of procedure texts. On Tuesday we combined Science and English and followed a procedure text to produce an instrument called 'Slapsticks'. Once we had made our instruments, we discovered that they produced their sound when one spoon hit the other spoon. We watched a professional perform using this instrument in an orchestra and used our own instruments to join in!
In 2I this term we have been working on narratives. We have been revising nouns, verbs, adjectives, noun groups and compound sentences. We need to make sure our writing includes these language features.

In Science students have been learning about the properties of solids and liquids. We discovered that liquids have high and low viscoity. To test levels of viscosity students had a 'viscosity race' with different types of liquids including oil, honey, maple syrup, hand sanitiser, shampoo and dish washing liquid. It was a great fun.
