Celebration of our Diverse Cultures
Last Friday we celebrated the rich multicultural diversity at Bowen State and a wonderful morning of learning about the history of countries that represent our school and cultural foods and dishes from around the world. This was a wonderful morning for families, staff and children to come together to celebrate the messages around acceptance, empathy and kindness. Can I thank staff, families and students for the combined efforts to enable such a great morning within our school.
Thank you to the Community
Recently I was privileged to represent the school and be presented with a $400 donation from the Bowen IGA Community Chest. The cheque presented will be tabled at the next P&C meeting, a decision about where the these funds could be best spent on the students at our school. I’d like to thank the community for their kind support to contribute and donate to a great program the “IGA Community Chest”.
Last week we had special guests from North Queensland Bulk Ports to present a wonderful Year 2 student, Piper Maloney with a certificate and $75 Gift Voucher. Out of 100 applicants, Piper’s design of the Bowen Jetty was selected as the winning entry for her age category. Her thoughtful design included First Aid Kits strategically placed along her jetty drawing. This idea is in the process of being approved by NQBP Design Team and will be part of the final project. We are proud of Piper, for her efforts and considered thoughts put into her design.
Serving the Community
As a member of the Bowen Community for 5 years, I have made the decision to join the local Rural Fire Brigade. I believe that volunteering is a critical part of our community, and something that I committed to further support and assist.
In this role I volunteer on the weekends, school holidays and after school. On the very rare occasion, I may be required to leave the school for critical incidences such as structural house fires or major car accidents. Plans are in place with the School Leadership Team should this occur.
The Department of Education supports all staff involvement with defence reserves such as Fire and Rescue, Rural Fire and SES if they choose. My primary employment as Principal of Bowen State School remains my priority to support our school, staff, students and families to realise the potential of every student.
