Classroom Learning
PA
During this early part of the term, we are establishing routines in Prep and familiarizing children with our school’s code of behavior. Children are also learning phonemic awareness – the ability to hear and identify sounds in words. They are becoming familiar with the SSP (our phonics program) monsters which will assist them in the early stages of blending sounds to make words. Another big focus is on oral language – encouraging children to express themselves as well as comprehend what is being said/read to them. This is done through reading stories, drawing and writing to encourage children to express themselves, participating in discussions and fostering the social interactions that occur during indoor play.
PB
Prep B has had a very exciting start to 2019. We have been discovering and exploring our new world in Prep.
Amelia and Ali playing with the animals and playdough on the tough tray.
Erikiah and Keturiah having some well-earned down time with the puzzle letters.
1/2B

Year 1/2B has been measuring the length of objects. We need to make sure we have no gaps, no overlaps and we start measuring at the end of the object. We will compare the length of objects to see which one is the longest. We will also measure the capacity of containers and the Year 2’s will measure the area of an object.
3B
3B are off to a great start for 2019! The rain tried to dampen our spirits early on but we've soldiered on. In English, we are practicing writing persuasive paragraphs. Our ultimate goal is that we are going to try and persuade Miss Malouf of something that we need more of or less of at Bowen State School. I'm sure some of 3B will be trying to convince Miss Malouf for more play time at lunchtimes! In Science, we are investigating what makes something living or non-living.
4B
In 4B we have been learning how to be mindful. We have been focusing on being present in the moment and learning to calm our minds. We have been doing this by focusing on our breathing and our bodies. This will help us to be more focused in our everyday lives.

5B
This term in Science we are looking at the solar system. The students have been learning about different celestial bodies such as planets, moons and asteroids. We have also studied the Apollo 11 mission and the impact of the space program on our everyday lives. The use of satellite photography was a topic the students really found fascinating!
6B

This term in Science, 6B have been looking at reversible and irreversible changes. Recently, we conducted an experiment on rusting and how different liquids can cause steel wool to rust quicker or slower than others. Students made predictions and wrote down observations.
