Big Data Small Data
Last week our staff engaged in Professional Learning around the focus of the work in our school for term 4. We discussed the impact we can make for students over the next 9 weeks and the importance to make every day count. Our school will continue to focus heavily on Writing and aligning this work to the 2019 Strategic Plan. We will continue to ask students to set goals co constructed with their teacher and stretch their thinking through differentiating the learning to achieve their goals.

As a whole school we will be providing Feedback and the use of classroom learning walls to support our students in their new units of work. The co constructed artefacts allow students to be part of the learning and use the curriculum resources to support them in their pursuit of the “A” standard.

I have included a fantastic diagram which shows the amount of support and guidance required by the teacher “The expert” at the beginning of each unit of work. We can see at the end of learning through the width of the triangle, the accountability on the students to produce and retain what has been taught. The Teacher input required is minimal.

I see our Big Data being the whole school data collection that guides our next steps. This important data such as A to E, NAPLAN, term by term analysis of Writing and Reading results guide us to make informed decisions each and every day. The Big Data helps us to steer the course, track our growth and target areas to improve. Small Data is extremely important as well. The individual faces on the data and collection of student’s evidence of learning guides the classroom teacher and student to the next piece of teaching and learning.

Growth in our enrolments

I am pleased to share from my arrival in term three this year that we have grown from 430 students to 450 students. We are also receiving a steady stream of interest to enrol for 2020. Let’s celebrate the fantastic growth and confidence from our community and beyond. Can I ask that parents and families keep talking up the school and potential for any future enrolments including prep for 2020. I shared on parade my vision of the school to become a school of excellence requires a reputation to match. I expressed my clear expectations around behaviour and that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated. Our school values are our Law. To ensure our reputation strengthens it is important that all families understand that our culture around a safe, supportive environment creates and positive and fun environment to learn. I am looking forward to driving this key message out to the community so please spread the word. We want to be the school of choice in this community and proud of the service offered to students at this school. Looking forward to sharing more great news stories for the fortnight. Until then have a great couple of weeks.
