Community support

Thank you to our wonderful Bowen State families for supporting some of our recent whole school events. The Neon disco was a major fundraiser for the student council and well supported by the entire school. It was wonderful catching up with so many families and seeing the excitement throughout the evening. A highlight was certainly the juggling performance and can I congratulate the team of students, Mr Dunn and Mrs Conway for your support and planning leading up to the disco. Thank you to the P&C for coordinating the fundraising component and looking after the catering. Best hot chips ever! Over $2500 was raised on the night! Well done everyone!

Yarning circle update

Last week Pilcher Industries removed the last of the temp fence from the yarning circle space. We have much work to still complete however it is exciting to see the wharf piers and flag poles being utilised. A huge thank you to Jeff Pilcher and his team of builders who have been donating time and resources daily for over a week. We are so grateful for the amazing donation and commitment to Bowen State School for this unique and exciting project. The next phase will be art work to completed by local Juru artists and a new mural to be completed against the wall behind. Our signage will explain the history of the timber pillars and connection to the school and wharf. Protocols for the use of the yarning circle, cultural significance and thanking our extensive list of sponsors.

School security

Recently our school has been the target of senseless and selfish acts of vandalism and attempted forced entries. This targeted crime has been consistently occurring of late and the school is currently working with the Queensland Police Service and Education Queensland to counteract and brainstorm ways to prevent further attacks. Can I please ask families to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour seen on school grounds to the local police and or contact school watch on 13 17 88. Together we can do our best to monitor and report inappropriate behaviour around our school to try and deter this senseless behaviour. Thank you to staff and families who cleaned up the large mess left behind and giving up their time to ensure all our children had their classrooms ready for learning on the following day.

Looking forward to sharing more great stories around the teaching and learning this term. Until next fortnight have a great couple of weeks.
