Class arrangements
Last week our teaching staff undertook the process to create class lists for next year. I would like to acknowledge the careful consideration taken by staff in the allocation of student class groupings for 2021. I feel that we have a model of smaller class sizes and arrangement based on 19 classrooms. This is a temporary plan for class groupings until the eighth day of school next year. Please continue to promote our school and encourage our community as the place to enrol for the future. Staff have now been notified which year level and class they will be teaching for 2021. Yesterday students had a wonderful, engaging session with their new teacher. I was most impressed how settled all students were and relaxed in their new classroom environments. Over the school holidays we will be again promoting our Meet and Greet BBQ. This morning provides an opportunity for families to drop in school supplies, collect uniforms, spend time in the classroom with the teacher and connect in with peers. If parents have any questions or queries this is the perfect morning to check in with the teacher before school re commences. This event will take place on Friday the 22 January from 8am -10am
Reporting period
Teachers are now finalising the reporting process for Semester Two and are preparing for the dissemination of this document in the last week of this term. It is a great opportunity to celebrate the growth in every child’s learning and individual achievements. Students and staff have been working hard on setting goals towards this latest report. Once reports are emailed use this opportunity to unpack and discuss the report with your child. Valuable feedback given from the teacher will be great conversation for families to discuss commencing a new year of learning in 2021.
Farewell 2020
Can I take this opportunity in the last school newsletter for the year to farewell outgoing staff from our school community. Thank you for your commitment and dedication to our students and I wish you all the most success on your new ventures.
In closing I would like to wish all of our families a safe and happy Christmas and New Year. I know after this year in particular it is important to rest and recharge the batteries. I am looking forward to seeing everyone back in 2021. Stay safe and thank you for all your support throughout the year.

Wrapping up 2020
Thank you to everyone in our wonderful community for welcoming myself and my family with open arms into Bowen. After relocating here at the start of the year, I can truly say that there is no place I’d rather be. Bowen State School is a great school supported by a wonderful team of staff and amazing students.
2020 has seen its challenges for everyone and I am certain that it is a year that we will look back on and never forget. What I have witnessed in this school community in particular is a group of positively minded people, who are always willing to provide support to whoever and wherever it may be needed. Students regularly demonstrate kindness, staff are dedicated and parents are always supportive of their children and teachers. These attributes, in my opinion, are what makes Bowen State great.
As the year draws to a close, we thank and farewell some staff who have made a significant difference to our school community and will be sorely missed. At the conclusion of this year we will be saying our goodbyes to Mrs Kate Grady, Mrs Katrina Floyd, Mrs Brooke Henry, Miss Allison Durling, Mrs Meaghan Saxelby and Mrs Lara Southern. Our gratitude and thanks is extended to all of you. I wish you well in your new endeavours and sincerely hope that you continue to build a learning community wherever your path shall take you.
Lastly, I hope that everyone has a wonderful festive season, spent with families, friends and those they love. I wish everyone in our community a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2021.

1/2I have been learning about fractions this term. We are learning about half, quarter and eighth. We have been dividing shapes and collections into these fractions.

As part of our maths Guided Inquiry task we have been designing a Fun Run. Students had the following criteria to guide them:
-Course must have at least one right angle
- Medals need two lines of symmetry
-Bib numbers must be multiples of six
-Entry time must be written in 12 and 24 hour time
-Race distance must be written in kilometres and metres
-Amount of drinking water required is to be written in litres
Our Fun Run took place at the Front Beach where students set up their Fun Run and the class ran the course. We had a great day and want to thank everyone who was involved and helped to make the day a great success.
GO Update
As we come to wind down to this year we start thinking about transitioning to 2021 whilst it is exciting it has also be a daunting time. The unknown, the new. We are working hard towards setting up for a successful 2021. The class session Thursday 12.30-1.30pm where students will spend time with the 2021 teacher and class in their classroom will be a great step forward in preparation for this transition.
If your little person is experiencing some anxiety please use this visual as some prompts to support.
Pick of the Crop
Exciting things have been happening at Bowen State School for the Pick of the Crop program. With the help of many students, Mr Payne, Mr Jorgensen and Mr Aitken begin cleaning the site for the school's vegetable garden that will be completed in early 2021 - just in time for the planting season.
Bowen State School is partnering with Health & Wellbeing Queensland for the Pick of the Crop program which endeavours to increase the intake of fruits and vegetables in students. If you haven't already done so head to the Healthy & Wellbeing Qld Facebook page as well as Bowen State School's Facebook page to find a short video taken from the morning in the garden.
As we head into the holiday season I wish all the families of Bowen State School a Happy, Healthy and Safe Holiday Season and I can not wait to keep 'making healthy happen' with you all next year.
