Have you seen the renovations to our entrance?
This term we have engaged Pilchers Building Services to carefully restore our historical front entrance. Although it is still under construction we can see a beautiful feature of our school re-emerging. This frontage of our school is important to promote the aesthetics and the tired, damaged and dilapidated entrance really needed attention. Watch this space as we finalise this project this term.
Regional networking
This term I will be representing our school in a small network meeting with the new Director - General of the Department of Education Queensland Micheal De ‘Ath and Acting Deputy Director General State Schools Sharon Schimming. Only 5 five principals were selected from our region of 150 schools. This amazing opportunity will allow me to hear the direction and focus for education right from the highest level. I am looking forward on my return to share the messages with the leadership team and staff.
Reporting period
As we enter the final collection period of assessment for students this term it is important that families note the reasons around our timelines for reporting. At Bowen State School, we enable teachers right up until the second last week of the term to provide draft copies of report cards to admin for proof reading. This ensures that the teaching and learning can continue right up to this time. The last week is then consolidation of skills learnt or applying elements of the learning for the next unit. We will be sending reports out in the first week of next term to accommodate this late reporting expectation of staff. We look forward to sharing your child’s progress in the first week of next term. This report will allow opportunity for families to celebrate the content covered and areas for improvement. We will host parent teacher interviews early in term 4 however I would always encourage regular contact and check ins with your classroom teachers for clarity and questions you may have.
Quadrennial School Review
As part of this years review it is a requirement to create a new four-year plan guided from the recommendations from the review visit this term. Shortly I will be forming a working group made up of school and community representatives. We will collaborate fortnightly next term and share updates back to all staff. I envision mid-term four I will be presenting the final document to my Line Manager and the School P&C. We will then look forward to embedding actions and targets in the 2023 Annual whole school plan. This four-year plan will be made public to our community. We as the custodians of this plan will look forward to the next four years to action the recommendations provided.
Looking forward to sharing more great stories around the teaching and learning this term. Until next fortnight have a great couple of weeks.

I believe in: Hard Work Honesty Transparency
Our current whole school attendance sits at 87%. Our target is 93%.
Congratulations to 3/4C for having the highest attendance with 92%.
Well done to Prep D, Prep L, P/1W, 3B, 3J, 3/4C, 5H, 5/6P & 6G for having 100% attendance on one day over the last two weeks.
Fun fact- our highest attendance days were Wednesday 18th May and Thursday 19th May with 90%.
STUDENT ATTENDANCE CELEBRATION
On parade we acknowledged students whose attendance was 100% for Weeks 1 to 5 this term. These students are proudly wearing their 100% wrist bands.
Congratulations to Kaylee, Hayley, Emily, Noah, Jake, Sarah, Sean, Reuben, Glynnie, Billy, Nha Anh and Gia Minh for 100% attendance since school started 132 days ago. Some of our 100% Attendees are in the photo below.
UNIFORMS - JUMPERS
Now that the weather is becoming cooler, students are wearing jumpers. Our uniform policy states students can wear a royal blue jumper or jacket and royal blue tracksuit pants. Parents can purchase jumpers from the uniform shop. Uniforms can be purchased on our Flexischools App or at the Office between 8:00am-3:30pm.
Please name your child’s jumper.
We have for sale some second hand uniforms that were kindly donated by the Bowen State School community. We have School Polos, Sport Polos, Jumpers and Skorts. Feel free to come and have a browse outside of the Office.
SUPPORTING YOUR CHILD
It is fantastic to see so many students playing games on the ovals. Rules of the games are often interrupted differently and at times students can disagree. Staff are actively supervising and supporting students to manage these situations. If your child speaks with you about an incident during play time, please remind them to report any incident to the staff on duty wearing the orange vests. When students report an incident it can be sorted immediately and avoids an escalation of emotions.
Please remind your child each day to report any incidents to the staff wearing orange vests!!
Are we preparing our kids with the fuel they need to thrive …. Not just survive? What kids put into their bodies impacts on their function at school and general health and wellbeing. Here are the guidelines and recommendations below. Meals created with the guides below in mind will best set your child up for success.
If your child is having challenges accessing fruit and whole grains they are able to access the “lunch program” items in G10 Student Support Team room. Students collect items in paper bag from G10 before school and place in their classroom fridge with their lunch. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask dupke3@eq.edu.au or 4786 9555.

A Message from our Head of Inclusion
Challenge Games will be held on the 27th and 28th July 2022 in Townsville and we are excited to be attending. We will be holding an afternoon tea information session for parents and students on the 1st June, an invitation will be sent home closer to the date. We are excited that our shirts are in production and will arrive at the end of July.
The Bowen State School Concert Band has been asked to play for the Uniting Church Ladies Morning Tea during school time on Tuesday the 14th June. The BSS Choir and Juggling Troupe will also be performing. Preparations are underway for the music we will play at this event, so it is really important that all instrumental music students continue to practice at home and come to band rehearsals at second break every Thursday.
