Dear Parents / Carers,
Fete Thanks
Thank you to all the Bowen State School Community for coming together on Saturday 15th of June to make our Fete such a huge success. It is a huge effort for the community to stage such an event but the result was outstanding. So many members of our community spoke to me at the Fete about what a brilliant event it was and how impressed again they were by this community event.
Firstly, thank you to all the families and visitors for attending and supporting the Fete. It takes each person in their own special way to make a memorable event. For some Bowen SS families it was their first fete and for some their last fete. Both will have warm memories from such a united community that celebrates our children’s school.
Thank you to the staff who contributed enormously to the Fete. They helped organise different stalls, helped set up and pack up for the Fete, volunteered on stalls including the BBQ stall, choc toss and the fishing game.
I would like to thank the Bowen Community for embracing our school fete. We would like to take the time to acknowledge our amazing P & C and the fete committee who have given so much of their precious and often limited time, it has been greatly appreciated. It is their dedication and commitment that has made our fete possible for all our community to enjoy. We would like to make a special mention to this amazing group of people as they have been the backbone of the Bowen State School fete that have come together to make this year’s fete happen. These people have worked endlessly for months in the lead up to the fete behind the scenes producing informative newsletters, eye catching pamphlets, signs, Facebook pages, distribution, sourcing sponsorship, donations, printing posters, letters, forms, overseeing prior and after financial support and collecting and collating all donations within the school.
Finally we would like to thank all our Sponsors and donators for their generous support. Your contributions offset many expenses at the Fete and enable the school to successfully fundraise through the event.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Attendance
As we come to the final weeks of Semester 1, it is important to remember that “Every Day still Counts”. We have seen a decline in some class attendance rates which impacts our whole school attendance.
Please ensure that you and your family continue to value your child’s education and continue ensuring they are attending school Every Day.
Reporting
Throughout the last 2 weeks, Miss Malouf and I have had the pleasure of reading a number of report cards prior to sending them home. It is so rewarding to note so many of our students making significant improvements in both their learning and effort.
I congratulate students for their dedication and hard work.
First 100 Days of School
In coming days we will celebrate our Prep Students’ First 100 Days of School. Congratulations to our Prep Families of supporting your child on their educational journey!
Keep up the amazing work you are doing.
Kind Regards,
Mrs Elizabeth Mayo

1A
Students in 1A have been reading a non- fiction text titled ‘Fur’. Mila and Evie and Declan and Kobi are reading and discussing what they have found out about fur and animals.
2A
Currently, 2A are investigating 3 digit numbers and place value. We have begun to represent 3 digit numbers in a variety of ways including with MAB blocks, standard partitioning (436 = 400 + 30 + 6) and identifying the value of each digit in a 3 digit number. We will continue to build on our knowledge for the remainder of this term.
3A
3A have been enjoying many mathematical explorations on all things involving mass, length and capacity. We’ve explored a few concept however, our favourite activities were measuring our height and recording our longest throw in suitable metric units.
4A
This term, Mr Mitchell has been teaching students the mechanics of String Art. Together the students have designed patterns, transferred the patterns to boards and learnt the fine art of hammering nails accurately, threading string and tying knots. At the beginning there were bent nails, a few sore thumbs and some frustrated students. The improvement is remarkable and now it sounds like clog makers workshop with everyone busy making two works of art

5A
In Term 3, students in 5A will be interpreting the poem ‘Fur and feathers’ by AB Paterson. The poem is about a football game between a team of emus and a team of kangaroos. To introduce the Unit the students have drawn an emu using oil pastels.
Congratulations Whitsunday Athletics Team members!
Last Monday, twenty Bowen State School students went to Proserpine State School to compete in the Whitsunday Athletics Trials against Proserpine and Collinsville Districts. All students did a great job and eight students met the qualifying standard to move on to North Queensland Trials on Monday June 17th in Townsville. Good luck to Rebecca Daniel, DeVante Watego, Megan Anau, Samuel Adams, Rashawn Watego, Emma Samuels, Edie Jackson and Denan Lavaring.
Congratulations to all students for doing an amazing job representing Bowen State School! We are very proud of your accomplishments.
Congratulations Mia!
