Great leadership
Last week Mrs Cremona travelled to Brisbane to accept a 2024 Showcase excellence award in the Starting Strong (P-2) category. Mrs Cremona and her colleagues from her previous community in Mount Isa were commended for their work within the Mount Isa cluster. The team of Principals and Leaders were acknowledged for the tremendous work around reading across the community and growth of students from the project. We are lucky to have the skills and knowledge that Mrs Cremona brings to our school, her previous experiences and has now been recognised across State Schooling Queensland for her contributions. We congratulate Mrs Cremona on her achievement to receive this prestigious award.
End of an Amazing Term
We reflect on another highly successful term with many engaging and varied activities. Students have thoroughly enjoyed the persuasive English unit and the alignment across the year levels has created a great collaborative culture. The presentations of some students were recently celebrated at cluster moderation with Queens Beach State School. We have been highly engaged in sporting and cultural events including the first Indigenous Youth Parliament day in Townsville. Over the last two weeks teachers have been highly engaged in planning of the term 4 English and Maths unit.
Our school financial invests in a whole day of planning for our teachers and sessions run by the Head of Curriculum and other school leaders. As leaders we know and understand this support is a massive work load reduction and allows the teachers clarity to best deliver the curriculum to our students here at Bowen State.
Can I thank Staff for your efforts this term in supporting our students and ensuring all our students are moving forward in their learning. Looking forward to hearing all the wonderful stories about what happened over the September holidays. See everyone again for the start of a great Term 4.

Well done to the Year 5 teachers and students who have raised $1500 towards their camp in Term 4. Thank you to families and staff for supporting the Crazy Hair, Crocs and Socks and school disco fundraisers. Champion effort!
Our Year 6 students and families have attended high school transition events this term. The students were able to ask Bowen High School staff questions, meet past BSS students and the high school mascot.

Mrs Cremona and I wish our families and staff a happy holiday break!
Thank you to parents and students who participated in our concert on Wednesday of Week 9. Thank you to all the students who had the courage to get up and perform in front of their friends and families. Thank you to all the parents who supported their students by transporting them to the concert and being there to hear them play. Thank you also to everyone to helped out on the night with the set up and pack up of chairs, music stands and percussion instruments.
We are still in the rehearsal process for all our new music, but the students were very proud to show you what they have achieved this term.

In a Bowen State first our Under 12 rugby league team has taken out this year’s Les Stagg Trophy against Cranbrook State School 28-22. This team has come so far, worked so hard and learnt so much. A huge congratulations to all the boys, today you showed what a great all round team you are! We are all so very proud of your efforts!
A massive thank you to Bowen Seagulls Rugby League for not only giving us the chance to host this match at Denison Park but all their efforts in preparing a field out of league season, it looked amazing today! Also thank you for arranging referees to referee the game.
Congratulations again boys, you should all be incredibly proud!
Prep D have been exploring measurement in Maths this term. We have been learning words to describe and compare length, mass and capacity such as long and short, heavy and light, bigger and smaller, holds more and holds less. The students have had fun exploring these concepts with hands on activities during maths groups.

Age-appropriate pedagogy has been key to the rich learning activities, which have been enjoyed by all in Year 1 this term. During HASS lessons, students have been learning about managed, natural and constructed features of local places. To engage the students in this unit of work, Year 1C and Year 1M joined forces to create a 3-dimensional model of the front beach in Bowen. This model included the Little Mango, Bird's Fish Bar, the jetty, ocean, sand, grassed area, the skate park, pirate park, exercise park and even the toilet block! The children were then required to explain the locations of these features and to draw an ariel map of the front beach. Oh what fun we have in Year 1!!!
3R have been learning all about our neighbouring countries in HASS. We've had so much fun researching and learning all about the different countries around Australia and creating our very own passports. Next term we are even hoping to create some yummy recipes that originate from these countries.
Students in 6H explored the beauty of nature through a still life drawing exercise. Armed with pencils and paper, they observed a majestic oak tree, capturing its intricate branches, textured bark, and the way sunlight danced through the leaves. This exercise fostered a deeper appreciation for the natural world and honed their observational skills.
