Prep transition
As the year progresses we are looking at ways to ensure all our families here at Bowen State have a smooth transition to prep in 2022. We believe the transition is for the whole family and the careful considerations around this belief are embedded into our 2021 transition program. This term we will be holding a Saturday prep open morning so families can enjoy our school campus in a relaxed casual environment. The date for this is week 9 Saturday the 19th June. Information regarding our transition for the year will be sent out with the youngest in the family, flier drop off to all the local kindies, added to our Facebook page and fortnightly newsletter. We are looking forward to the smoothest transition for your child and a great start to Prep. If families have any questions along the way don’t hesitate to contact the school office for more information.
School Fete
Huge thank you to all the families that attended our second fete meeting this term. We are working hard to create a fun, family focused event for our community. This activity will also be one of our biggest fundraisers for the year. Information will be communicated regularly regarding this event. Teachers are currently looking for parent helpers and volunteers on the day. Please contact your child’s teacher if you can assist. Save the date Saturday 14th August. Week 5 Term 3.
Allan Parker Twilight
This year our school and other cluster schools have been engaging with a guest speaker Allan Parker. Allan is a Behavioural Scientist and has been working with staff around considered conversations and awareness of self and others. The workshops are supporting staff with the complexity of our role and the conversations we engage in our day to day tasks. The feedback from staff has been extremely positive so far and this term. Our school has the added bonus of a Schools out to community program Twilight Session. We welcome all our families to a twilight workshop for families and the wider community presented by Allan. This will be held in the library next Wednesday evening the 2nd June from 5:30pm -7:30pm. The flier being circulated outlines the topics included:
PM
Students in Prep M have been busy writing and responding to a story. Students have been working hard adding detail to their drawings, singing the sentence song and marking their own work using the checklist.
1 W/P
1W/P really enjoyed themselves at Under 8s last Friday. We would like to thank Mr Fisher, Mrs Forrester, Mr and Mrs O’Brien and Mrs Maskey for helping to supervise us at QBSS. We had lots of fun!!!2 M/G
Lately, 2MG have been busy learning all about animals to compare their similarities and differences. We are loving our classroom pet, ‘Reggie the Red claw’ and are trying our hand at growing vegetables and flowers. Each week we observe how our red claw and plants are developing and changing.
Time and money have been our main focus these past few weeks during math. The class are improving at converting analogue to digital time and vice versa, as well as counting collections of coins and finding the correct coins and notes to buy an item.
Last week’s ‘Big Day Out’ was a massive hit with Year 2MG and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. This is what some students had to say after we returned to school;
“Dear Queens Beach, thank you for Big Day Out. My favourite part was face paint because the people who did it are very good painters.”
“Dear Queens Beach, my favourite thing was face paint but my most favourite part was going on the fire truck.”
“Dear Queens Beach, thank you for Big Day Out. My favourite part was everything because it was awesome and great!”
4 A/M
Students in 4 A/M are enjoying studying the history of Australia before, during and after European settlement. They have followed many historical journeys and discoveries since the 1400's. Students have researched why Country is significant to Indigenous Australians. They are now studying the impacts of the arrival of First Fleet. All students enjoying sketching the tall ships of the First Fleet.
GO UPDATE
I have had many discussions this week with students about:
- Things in their control
- Things out of their control
Students need to put time and energy into what they can control. Eg. How they react, their coping strategies, communicating etc. Ask your child what are three strategies they use to cope with stress.

Reconciliation Week
Bowen State School we acknowledge our part in reconciliation. We work hard to collectively build relationships and a school community that values Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures and futures.
NQBP Reconciliation Action Plan presentation: community
Our wonderful CEC Ms Karenne Williams represented the school as a special guest speaker on Tuesday night at the NQBP community presentation of their Reconciliation Action Plan at the Grand View Hotel. Ms Williams spoke about the actions of the Bowen State Schoo
l community in ‘taking action’ with the new yarning circle project she is facilitating alongside Bowen State School staff, parents and community support from: NQBP, Whitsunday Regional Council, JURU, ADANI, Toyota, Cowboys community team, Hillery Bowen Industrial Hire and Pilchers Hire. The role of the CEC and school staff in the capacity of building positive partnerships between families, school and wider community was also presented. We are proud of our strong community partnerships as a school and thank all involved.

Hello to all our wonderful Bowen State families,
Wow! Have you checked out the school vegetable garden recently? It is thriving. I welcome you all to come in and check it out.
The school vegetable garden is changing on a weekly almost daily basis and students are doing a fantastic job keeping it maintained and looking great. Our resident green thumbs have been patiently waiting for the first lot of produce and it is the yellow squash that has provided the first flower and vegetable.
It is with great excitement that I announce that the Garden Club have been the successful recipients of the Eco Ports Grant through North Queensland Bulk Ports. They have received $1000 to purchase gardening equipment that will support the continuation and sustainability of the school vegetable garden. Thank you, North Queensland Bulk Ports for your support and generosity.
Congratulations to Mrs Groves and the Garden Club for a very successful submission.
Until next time Bowen State, stay happy and healthy.
